Importance of Community

I spent a bitter cold Wednesday night in Downtown Minneapolis playing Bingo (or, as they call it Bango) at a gay bar called the Saloon. This game of Bango happens every single Wednesday evening and every time I have gone it has been packed! And usually its the same folks with a few first timers that they like to call “Bango Virgins”

It was exactly what I needed tonight and am happy to have my friend in town to come along with me as well. The best part of it all was seeing the same folks from before who all have developed a bond with one another over a fun loud game on what otherwise could be just another cold lonely Wednesday night.

I’ve met a couple of them and they like me are not originally from Minnesota. I have found that a local community bar like the Saloon is an amazing place to meet other people who are also looking for that sense of community in a new place. Best of all, you don’t have to even drink. I bought a bottled water and still enjoyed myself.

I would encourage anyone living in a unfamiliar place to go out and visit your neighborhood local bar and specifically find out when their game nights are such as Bingo or Trivia. This I have found is the easiest way to spark up conversations rather than just sitting at a bar alone. You never know who you will meet!
