Today is the first day of 2022 and I am truly looking forward to some wonderful things happening this year. As I look back at 2021 in it’s entirety, I can honestly say its been a great year full of life lessons and some huge changes.
It was at the beginning of the year on January 20th, 2021 when I made the big decision to move from San Antonio to Minnesota when my lease was up in July. It was also in July when after 2 years of annoyance and pain, my braces came off my teeth! Something I put off doing since I was a kid.
A day after they came off I drove 4 days from Texas to Minnesota stopping in places like Joplin Missouri and Des Moines Iowa. It was the first real road trip of my life. Here I am almost 6 months later living in Maple Grove Minnesota.
I chose Maple Grove over Minneapolis originally because of the worries concerning Minneapolis crime rates recently and because my close friend of 13 years happens to live in Maple Grove as well. However, after some months, I learned the media has over exaggerated issues in Minneapolis (no real surprise)
As Winter settles in here, I have come to realize that I as a single gay man must get myself into Minneapolis ASAP. The suburb is very nice but no place for me especially in the dead of winter. I need nearby nightlife and to mingle with other single people my age. Plus, it be nice to be near the Sports venues!
I’ve been going into Minneapolis once a week to go to the bars and each time I drive into it, my heart is joyful. So with that said, come July of this year my plan is to be living in Downtown Minneapolis! Walking distance to the bars I like and to the Vikings and Timberwolves games! And still only 20 mins away from my friend in Maple Grove.
I am truly hoping that things turn out amazing for me this year in my new home. I really need to make more friends in order for me to continue living in Minnesota for an extended period of time. I did just sign up to be a Volunteer for Out Minnesota LGBT organization so I am very hopeful with that!
And who knows? Maybe this will be the year I find a significant other for the first time since 2014! For the past 8 years, I have not desired a partner. However, as I am approaching the age of 39, I am officially starting to consider this as a goal.
Wow, so yeah so much changed for me in 2021 and from the looks of it, I am on pace for another record year of changes here in 2022. One thing I will have to keep in mind as each month passes is the fact that I must trust in Divine Timing.
I wish all my friends and colleagues a wonderful New Year in 2022. If we stick together no matter our physical distance, I think we will all have a very fruitful year with many blessings to come. Happy New Year!
