Always Add Value

This morning I started to think about my career and my work history over my many years in the workforce. I started working at the young age of 15 when I got my first job at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk in San Antonio as a Housekeeping “Houseman”.  My dad worked there so I got this job easily.

And since the age of 18, I have not been without a job for more than a few weeks. That is 20 straight years of almost non stop work. Pretty proud of myself and my work ethic to be honest. A lot of that has to do with my upbringing where I was taught that “if a man doesn’t work he doesn’t eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)

It is for this reason that I have always felt the need to “add value”. Some of the ways I added value were being a Waiter, Busboy, Dishwasher, Hotel Reservation Agent, PBX operator, 411 Operator, Cashier, Convenient store Clerk, Substitute teacher, and now a technical support agent for a web hosting company.

I love all my work experiences because they have provided me with so much wisdom throughout the years and provide me great satisfaction in knowing that I have always provided value in exchange for everything I have gained in life. I think I like the phrase “Never Retire” as I do believe I will be adding value to others until I die.
